“We have so much to celebrate this season – returning to live performances after the pandemic, reconnecting with our audiences, re-engaging our young actors, and remembering all of those who have made TCT into the vital community asset it is today,” Executive Director Stacey Messina said. “We can’t wait to get started!”
Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella, originally presented on television in 1957 and starring Julie Andrews, was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium with more than 100 million viewers and was recreated for TV twice in 1965 and 1997. Elf The Musical JR is based on the beloved holiday film about Buddy the Elf’s quest to find his true identity while experiencing many hilarious mishaps along the way! Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR is an adaptation of the Broadway and film hit following Ariel and her aquatic friends as they journey “under the sea” in a magical underwater kingdom.
The shows provide enormously popular tunes and charming storylines chosen specifically to delight audiences, Artistic Coordinator Drew Baker said.
“After all we’ve been through the past year and a half, we want to give our audiences and our actors a bit of magic and a lot of joy with these classic tales,” Baker said. “The gorgeous costumes, elaborate sets and heartwarming themes are guaranteed to excite our audiences watching them and our actors performing them.”
This season also marks TCT’s 35th year of providing high-quality arts education, community engagement, and live entertainment in West Alabama. We will celebrate our anniversary with multiple activities announced throughout the year to honor our founders and the numerous casts and crews over 35 years.
As part of the celebration, TCT dedicates this season to Shelley Jones and Dee Ward whose vision brought together the necessary forces and funding to create TCT in 1986. The original group of parents, educators, and theatre professionals identified a need for the youth of Tuscaloosa and surrounding counties to educate and expose children to all aspects of stage performing and to have opportunities to perform. Today, TCT offers onstage and offstage opportunities for hundreds of children each year, and houses audiences of thousands of children and families annually. TCT remains the area’s only nonprofit performing arts theatrical group dedicated solely to educating and exposing children to all aspects of stage performance and production as actors, stage crew and audiences.
Tickets for 2021-22 performances will be available at tuscaloosachildrenstheatre.net approximately one month prior to each production. Seating for the first two productions will be limited to 50 percent capacity per current restrictions at the Bama Theatre.
Dates and times for auditions and workshops will be updated on the TCT website as needed.
TCT wholeheartedly thanks our 2021-22 Season Sponsors: MedCenter, First Federal, WVUA, and the Family of Terria Plott in Her Loving Memory. Sponsors for individual shows, the gift table and other opportunities remain available with more information on our website.
“We are so grateful for the support of our sponsors who truly make children’s dreams come true,” TCT Board President Marianne David said.
